Privacy Policy

Last updated: 18 June 2026

SimplNote is built by Sayak Sarkar as a personal project. This policy describes — in plain words — what we collect, why, and how we protect it. If anything here is unclear, email sayaksarkar73@gmail.com.

What we collect

  • Account basics from Google or Apple Sign-In: your name, email address, and profile picture URL. That's the full list — we do not request any other Google or Apple scopes.
  • The notes you create: the text you type, list items, fonts and colors you pick, the timestamps. Notes you share are visible to the friends you share them with.
  • Your friend connections: the IDs of friends you pair with (via QR code or email invite).
  • Support messages you send us through the feedback form on this site (name, email, and message — name & email are optional).

What we do not collect

  • No analytics SDKs (no Google Analytics, no Mixpanel, no Firebase Analytics).
  • No advertising identifiers. No ads.
  • No location, contacts, photos, or microphone data.
  • No third-party trackers in the app or on this website.

How notes are stored

Note contents (your text and list items) are encrypted at rest with AES-256-GCM before they touch the database. The encryption key lives only on the SimplNote server — even someone with read access to the database cannot read your notes without it. The connection from the app to our server is always over HTTPS (TLS 1.2+).

How sharing works

When you share a note with a friend, that friend's account is added to the note's recipient list on the server. They see the note in their own reel until either of you removes it. Friends you have not shared a note with cannot see it.

Who sees your data

  • You, in the SimplNote app.
  • Friends you explicitly share a note with.
  • The SimplNote operator (Sayak) only when required for support or to keep the service running. We do not read notes routinely or for advertising — there is no advertising.
  • Our infrastructure providers: MongoDB Atlas (database), our VPS host, and Google / Apple for sign-in verification. They process data on our behalf and are bound by their own privacy and security commitments.

Deleting your data

You can delete individual notes from inside the app at any time — they are removed from our database immediately. To delete your entire account (profile, all notes, friend list), email sayaksarkar73@gmail.com from the address tied to your account. We action requests within 7 days.

Younger users

SimplNote is safe for kids — there are no ads, no analytics, no third-party trackers, and no public profiles. Anyone can jot notes, tick lists, and share with friends.

The only practical age gate is the sign-in step: Google and Apple require their account holders to meet a minimum age (typically 13, varies by country). Apple Family Sharing lets a parent manage younger members. If a parent or guardian would like a child's account removed, email sayaksarkar73@gmail.com and we'll action it within 7 days.

Changes

If this policy changes, we will update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. Substantive changes will be announced in the app on next launch.
